Red Chile Cast Iron Seared Tuna Steak
(This recipe serves 2)
Ingredients:
- 2 fresh tuna steaks
- Olive oil for coating
- 1 tablespoon butter (for searing)
Seasoning blend (mix together):
- 1/2 teaspoon Fresh Chile Co. Red Chile Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
Optional sides and toppings:
Baked sweet potatoes
Fresh Chile Co. Pure Green Chile
Fresh Chile Co. Green and Red Chile Blend
Roasted lemon
Sea salt
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
2. Pat tuna steaks dry with a paper towel. Lightly coat both sides with olive oil.
3. Press the tuna steaks into the seasoning blend, making sure both sides are fully coated.
4. Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat until very hot. Add a small amount of butter.
5. Sear the tuna steaks for 1 minute per side to form a flavorful crust.
6. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and cook for about 4 minutes for medium rare. Adjust time slightly for desired doneness.
7. While the tuna finishes, bake sweet potatoes until tender. Slice open and top with butter and Fresh Chile Co. Pure Green Chile.
8. For a finishing touch, mix a little Fresh Chile Co. Green and Red Chile Blend with roasted lemon juice and sea salt. Spoon over the tuna steaks before serving.
Serving tip: This dish pairs bold red chile heat with the delicate texture of tuna. The sweet potato side with Hatch green chile rounds it out perfectly.
